Today’s discovery fills a gap and provides a list of 10 ways to use orange peel. This is a really great list, I think you’ll be delighted and I don’t really feel the need to say too much about it.

I will just mention an interesting concept that relates to this post – the idea of the “zero waste home”. Self-explanatory, the zero-waste home attempts to reduce our “impact” and either re-use or recycle everything. Seems impossible? Some people are doing it. If you have never considered this before, I heartily recommend it. Not because it is going to make a profound dent in the overall waste mountain, but because of the awareness that it will bring you: First of all, we do not live in a vacuum. Everything we use ends up somewhere and it’s a great practice to contemplate the idea of a fully-sustainable human system that mimics natural cycles instead of the linear consume-discard pattern.

The second reason why the practice is good, is that in order to have a zero-waste home, we will have to become knowledgeable in materials. We will learn what is actually contained in all the items we purchase and discard – and will have to consider alternatives wherever possible. Alternatives such as re-using things that we normally discard… things like orange peels. 😉

Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises…

Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...

  1. I put all my citrus peels in the vitamix with a small amount of water and blend. Makes an excellent body exfoliant. Just test a small area before using all over. It can be a bit harsh for sensitive skin.
