With advances in technology comes the availability of commercial deodorants that promise satisfaction. However, you should be aware that not all of them are considered healthy. Some of them contain ingredients (such as aluminum) that may cause rashes or irritations, and even lead to skin disorders. Spraying chemicals on your body day after day might not be a good idea.

What makes the best deodorants? Are they the ones that whiten your armpits and make them odor-free? Are they the ones that prevent your from perspiring? Are they the ones which are widely available in the market today, or are they the natural ones that allow you to perspire?

Many people have long believed in the notion that sweating is the root cause of body odor. But this isn’t actually the case. Bacteria are the #1 cause of odor, not perspiration. You should also know that sweating is one of the body’s natural mechanisms to get rid of unwanted toxins. So eliminating perspiration “seems like a good idea on paper” but it’s worth understanding the pros and cons.

Aside from being healthy and chemical-free, natural deodorants can be budget-friendly. We found a great tutorial on how to make them. And the process is surprisingly easy! Here are some of the ingredients they included:

Cocoa butter is probably one of the most popular ingredients of many beauty products nowadays. The main ingredient in chocolate, cacao (cocoa) is known for its antioxidant contents that help make the skin smoother and softer. Antioxidants are also useful in repairing damaged skin as well as in preventing skin ageing. Cacao also contains flavonols that offer unique protection to the skin against free radical damage. Another constituent of cocoa is theobromine that is considered able to improve blood circulation. Increased blood flow may help prevent the skin from drying.

Shea butter is definitely one of the most widely used ingredients of many skin and beauty products today. If you have problems with dark underarms, then shea butter is one of the best choices for ingredients of your deodorant. Shea butter contains potent substances that are reported to help in toning out the skin, curing damage and in getting rid of skin discoloration.

Known for its antibacterial and antibacterial properties, tea tree oil is included as the ingredient to get rid of the bacteria. This ingredient benefits best those who are experiencing extreme itchiness on their armpits.

  1. Primers, tutorials, anything for those of us who don’t have time right now. Dare I say it……even a book!

  2. Any natural deodorant mixes that don’t contain cocoa butter or shea butter? I have a hard enough time finding lotions, hair care products, and body washes due to being highly allergic to both ingredients and may want to try something like this but can’t if the ingredients cause me to break out in hives and infectious sores on my body.

  3. Tamara Scott, yes, I have been looking into homemade deodorant and there is 2 recipes I will be trying today with coconut oil and baki,g soda and the other is the same just adding beeswax so it keeps its form in warmer climates. Tea tree oil would always be nice if you can but it isn’t necessary.
